2013

We are three guys (sometimes four), who split off to our respective job destinations after grad school. Four years later, Shaffer and Coop decided the best way to reconvene would be a weekend golf getaway to Scottsdale, thus igniting the addiction and obsession with golf travel. Competition was never the objective for the first few trips, with rules vaguely following the official Rules of Golf, but mainly focused on experiencing great golf courses, having fun, and drinking beers. This hardly makes us unique, as guys get together and do this daily across the world. We would declare someone the “Best Golfer” at the end of the trip, then promptly go home and begin planning next year’s trip.

Obviously, the rules and handicapping system exist for good reason, and are relied upon for the creation of fair competition. Our issue with this system is that strokes are GIVEN from the low handicap to the higher handicaps, and tends to promote SERIOUS competition. Our flagship rule, the Godfather rule, is the Beer Strokes rule. This rewards a player for finishing an alcoholic beverage during a given hole, with a stroke. A natural consequence of this rule is that it prevents us from ever taking golf too seriously.

This rule and all subsequent rules added over the years have only enriched the playing experience and surprisingly have also enhanced the competitive aspect of our golf trips. “Scores” are now meticulously kept, the champion must not simply play the best but navigate and use the rules as best they can to gain any necessary advantage. The champion also receives the Yellow Jacket, a vintage piece rescued from a thrift store by Shaffer back in school. He is then tasked with attaching the patch of his choice to commemorate his victory, keeping the jacket until the next trip.

Through this website and our future videos, we hope to share our love of golf, beer, and life with everyone. We’ll try to showcase the courses, travel experience, and the best in local beers. We hope people find our brand of golf unique and fun. We created this primarily as a centralized repository for our photos, videos, and memories of our trips. We’ll try to include some brief non-technical and totally biased reviews, as well as the real cost of the trips at the times we took them, as everything is paid for out of our own pockets, we have no sponsorships, and do not expect to receive any.

Finally, our wives are great, and we love them very much.

So, make sure you stop at the bar on the way to the first tee and get yourself a couple strokes.
